Hello

Welcome to my first newsletter and thank you for signing up to hear from me. Whether we’ve met at an exhibition or you’ve discovered my work online, I’m pleased to have you here. I hope to use these seasonal notes to share a little of what’s happening in the studio, the ideas and processes behind my paintings and sculpture, as well as the exhibitions and places where you can see my work. I’ll write as the seasons change, offering a glimpse into my working life and the things which continue to inspire me.

As autumn deepens and the year begins to turn towards winter, I felt it was a good moment to share a little of what’s been happening in the studio and what lies ahead

I rarely begin with a fixed idea of what a piece should become. Instead, I work intuitively - building up layers, making changes and allowing something to emerge through the process itself. With clay, that might mean gradually developing a figure before firing and glazing it; with paint, adding and scraping away layers until the colour, movement and feeling come together.

It’s this process of discovery that keeps me interested and there is plenty to discover in the studio at the moment.

In the studio

Much of my time just now is being spent preparing new sculptures for firing and glazing, alongside a fresh collection of paintings. I’m exploring a range of sculptural forms, from smaller pieces to larger figures, while allowing new ideas to develop as I work.

I’m also building up work for the two galleries I’m delighted to be associated with: BouSham Gallery in Brighton and the Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden in Surrey.

Both have been wonderful places for my work this year and I’m looking forward to developing these relationships.

There are always ideas taking shape in the background, too. Some will find their way into finished pieces quite quickly; others need time to settle before I understand what they might become.

Exhibitions

The Sussex 2026 | BN9 Studio, Newhaven

7-29 November 2026

I’m delighted to have been selected for The Sussex 2026 once again. It’s a wonderful opportunity to be part of a wider celebration of artists and their work. I look forward to sharing more details as they become available.

Christmas Exhibition | Star Brewery Gallery, Lewes

3-13 December 2026

I’ll be taking part in the Star Brewery Gallery’s Christmas Exhibition, a group show which brings together painters and ceramicists. I’m currently preparing new sculptures for the show and I look forward to seeing my work alongside that of my fellow artists.

Opening times will be confirmed shortly.

Solo Exhibition | Star Brewery Gallery, Lewes

4-13 June 2027

I’m pleased to confirm that my fourth solo exhibition at Star Brewery Gallery will take place next June. This gallery has become a particularly special place for me to show my work, and each exhibition offers the chance to explore new ideas and bring together a fresh body of paintings and sculpture.

I’m already looking forward to seeing how the work develops between now and then.

In the meantime…

For now, there is plenty to keep me occupied in the studio, with new forms emerging from the clay and paintings gradually finding their way towards completion.
